I am not tech savvy.  Will a virtual visit work for me?

YES!!  We will schedule a virtual visit with you in whatever platform you are comfortable using.  If needed, we can have a test visit the day prior to your scheduled visit.

What will be discussed during the visit?

Home assessments evaluate:

  • Entrance/Exit

  • Bathrooms

  • Bedroom(s)

  • Hallways

  • Other areas

Discussions during the assessment often include topics like:

  • Toileting

  • Transfers

  • Bed options

  • Caregiving

  • Wheelchair use

  • Accessible vehicles

  • Smart Home technology

Decision Making regarding home modifications and accessibility:

  • Is the house accessible?

  • Do you make permanent or temporary adaptations?

  • Is the person with ALS safe with these adaptations?  Is the caregiver safe?

  • What makes sense for your budget? Now, as well as planning for future needs? Some things to consider:

  • The VA is the only organization that will reliably fund renovations

  • Out of pocket expense can be thousands

  • Some long-term care policies will offer small one time coverage for durable medical equipment or renovations

  • Comparison of modifications versus cost of care should they need to hire help

  • Will modifications increase or decrease home value?

  • Moving

What should I do to prepare for my virtual visit?

  • Have your smartphone, tablet, or laptop available to utilize during the scheduled visit.

  • Have a person present that can physically walk through the home and take measurements.

  • Please have a metal tape or yardstick for the measurements we will take during the visit.

  • Encourage as many family members or caregivers to join the virtual visit as possible.
